Appalachian Horror Anthology

Summary

Aphotic Realm is settling down in the mountains of America with a new anthology, APPALACHIAN HORROR. Explore the depths of our own backyard and the darker roots of the human spirit. From the mysterious lights of a night sky to the strange creatures that roam the woods, explore the unseen and sinister beneath nature's beauty.

Submissions are open from January 1st and end March 1st. Stories should shine a light on the darker aspects of the Appalachian area of North America. Human, spectral, bestial, natural, or something more. Any horror that calls the Appalachians home. Stories should be 4-6k words. Those chosen will receive a token payment of $10 and have their work published in the anthology, set to be released May 15th.

Submissions window Opens January 1st, 2019. Notice: Any submission sent to us for this issue before January 1st will be deleted unread. 

Deadline: March 1st, 2019

Reading Period

March 2nd-April 15th.

May 15th, 2019

Submissions

Fiction

We will accept unpublished short stories of any genre as long as they are dark, sinister, or eerie in tone. Stories must contain a minimum of 4000 words and not surpass 6000 words. Please submit all stories to submissions@aphoticrealm.com. In the subject line please write, “APPALACHIAN – Title of your story.” In the body of the email, please include a 50-100 word bio about yourself and your contact information. All stories must be submitted as a .DOC or .DOCX file. All other file types will be deleted without being read.

Editor

Aphotic Realm is excited to be working with Bo Chappell, author of Once You Get To Know Me, Year 47 (Horror-Writers.com 2016 Book of the Year), and the Best Selling, By Year's End: a Year 47 Anthology. Bo will be taking on the role of Guest Editor for this anthology. We're excited and you should be too!
