If you would like to prepare a story for when we re-open general submissions later this year or to see what our overall guidelines are, please read below.
We will accept unpublished short stories of any genre as long as they are dark, sinister, or eerie in tone. Stories must contain a minimum of 1000 words and not surpass 5000 words.
Non-Fiction is the same as Fiction, just of the non-fiction variety.
Book Reviews should be at least 500 words and not exceed 2,500 words. Please make sure that the book review you send us falls in line with our style. We publish Strange and Sinister fiction – it is very unlikely that we will publish your review of romance or YA fiction.
Please send all book review submissions to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please write, “BOOK REVIEW – Title of book” in the subject line of the email. In the body of the email, please provide us with your name (people do forget this), a short synopsis of the book (not exceeding 50 words), along with links to where we can find/purchase the book.
Comics should not exceed 12 pages. The comics can be in black and white or color, but we do not accept works-in-progress or pages that are penciled and not inked. Not all comics have or need dialogue, but we are not accepting comics that intend to be lettered and are not. To put it simply, all submissions must be COMPLETED.
In addition to short comics, we also accept comic strips. These too, must be completed.
Please send all comic submissions to email@example.com. Please write, “COMIC – Title” in the subject line of the email. In the body of the email, please provide the names of the creators (writer, penciler, inker, colorist, letter, etc.), as well as a brief description of the comic.
Comics should be sent as a .PDF file. Any attachment of a different file type will be deleted and unread.
Please keep in mind that all comics that are accepted for the print of the magazine will have to be sized to 8.5” x 11” (while retaining proper dimensions).
You must own all the rights to all work you send.
Please send all artwork to firstname.lastname@example.org . Please write, “ARTWORK – Your name” in the subject line of the email. In the body of the email, please briefly tell us about yourself.
If you have an Art Station, Deviant Art, Tumblr, or website portfolio, please provide us with the link so we may view your work.
If you do not have an online portfolio, you may send us your work directly. However, artwork must be sent as a .PDF file. Any attachment of a different file type will be deleted without viewing.
You must own all the rights to all work you send.
WE DO NOT COMMISSION WORK.
Please do not send us artwork with the hope of pitching us to purchase a commissioned piece from you.
This is something new we are excited to explore. If you have a short film, documentary, review, etc. and would like to contribute to our upcoming Aphotic Realm T.V., we would love to have you.
We are not asking for exclusive rights.
We just want to compile and showcase amateur and upcoming Strange and Sinister works within the medium.
If you are interested, please send an email to email@example.com. Please write, “VIDEO – Title” in the subject line of the email. Within the body of the email, please provide us with a brief bio of yourself and summary of your video.
DO NOT SEND THE VIDEO FILE.
Please send a YouTube or Vimeo link to your video.
If accepted, we will ask for the raw video file so we can add an Aphotic Realm TV title card at the beginning of the video. We will also be uploading to the upcoming Aphotic Realm TV YouTube channel including links to your personal site and/or channel.
At this time, we are unable to offer any compensation for your hard work. As Aphotic Realm grows and expands its premium services, we have no intentions to pocket the profit because we are here for the love of the craft. Instead, we will turn that monetary gain back toward our writers. For the time being, publication with Aphotic Realm includes the opportunity to promote your writing. We will provide a link to your blog, website, social media, or to the online retailer where your books are for sale. In addition, we will have a weekly or monthly author spotlight where we will post the above information as well as your bio or (if such time allows) an interview.
